Rain, Rain & More Rain

Well, we finally got it!  We’ve been waiting for months, it seems, for a good rain here in Monmouth County, New Jersey.  Yesterday we finally got it intermittently all day.

It was heavenly.  Big gushing buckets of the great stuff.  Puddle stomping time!  I don’t think we’ll be singing the rain, rain, go away song anytime soon.  We were so happy to see it.

Of course, I had to “do the stroll” and check out all my plants this morning.  One of my client’s invented the stroll a few years back when we finished redesigning the plantings in front of her home.  She just loved to go out and walk through the new garden - so, we termed it “the stroll”.  I know she’s still doing it, but her business - NutritionSolutions4Life has been doing really well and monopolizes a great deal of her time these days.  She’s also a great lady and has a great website, so I think I’ll give her plug http://www.nutritionsolutions4life.com/.  Check it out - great healthy recipes too!

Okay, so back to the purpose of my blog today - RAIN!  So, I was doing the stroll this morning, checking out all my plants.  They loved the rain too.  We think we water, but you can never water as well as a heavy rain.  My shade garden looks so happy - the hydrangeas look refreshed even though they are at the end of their bloom cycle.  The hosta and helleobores are sitting up tall and taking notice.  Everything looks like they just said a big “Ahhh”!

My two planters that flank either side of my slider, though, got a little beat up yesterday.  I thought I moved them away from the gutter.  Too much water at one time and the gutters overflowed right into the two pots.  My cleome in one of them has a rather large tilt to the right at the moment and the gaura in the other pot looks like a flattened bad hair day.  Hopefully a little staking in one and some sunshine on both will perk them back up again.

So, I hope like me and my plants, those of you who were fortunate enough to have such a glorious rainfall day, relished it and savored it!  Hey, even if you didn’t quite go that far because I can be a little over the top about things - look at this way - YOU got a day off from watering!  That must be worth at least a smile!
