Happy 4th of July Weekend
Well, it’s another great holiday weekend coming up. A long one meant for barbecues, getting outdoors and enjoying friends, family or enjoying whatever it is we like to do.
We’re taking a few days off this weekend to relax, catch a friend’s barbecue, hopefully see some great fireworks and attend a graduation/birthday. Monday will be recuperation day with nothing but a long walk and some relaxation.
What do I do to relax? Well, I garden! Nothing is better than to walk through the garden early in the morning, cup of tea in one hand and garden hose in the other. Poking around to see what needs tending to and what bloomed today that wasn’t blooming yesterday. Anything need a good talking to? Like my Trumpet Creeper vine that I’ve placed in a much too shady spot that has not produced a single flower yet this year, while neighbors’ plants are so floriferous I could scream. Yes, it’s in the perfect spot for it, but it doesn’t really think so, so I need to coax it along so I talk to it.
What’s newly blooming now in New Jersey on this Fourth of July weekend you might ask? Well, I’m going to tell you. In our yard, it’s Oriental lilies - they’re just popping and starting to perfume the yard. You can’t beat Mona Lisa and Star Gazer for their pizzazz and heavenly fragrance. Our first Star Gazer popped this morning and will usher in a month of flowers for cutting and just plain enjoyment.
So, on this 4th of July weekend when you’re celebrating this great nation’s birthday, however you celebrate it, take a little time to look around and see the beauty of this great land. If you don’t have a yard or a garden, visit a park, take a drive down a road less traveled and see what’s blooming there. Enjoy!
Let us know what you did. We’d love to hear about your 4th of July experience with nature.
