The Enchanted Forest
Well, it’s really my shade garden, but my two granddaughters call it their enchanted forest. First the eldest, when she was 4 or 5, started parading through it in her Cinderella princess dress and slippers, hopping from one stepping stone to the next in her own magical moment. And now she’s outgrown the dress and it’s been passed down to our littlest one, who is going to soon be 3 years old. She was saying ‘the enchanted forest’ before she could say ‘the enchanted forest’, if you get my drift.
And then there’s the magnolia tree in the garden that is the heart of it. It’s been the climbing tree for both girls. I think it was the first tree the eldest one ever climbed. To sit up high and view the rest of the garden and the yard is a beautiful thing. The littlest one was telling us when she was first learning to talk, that she’s a real “tee climber”. Now that her vocabulary is all nailed down, she told me the other day that she wanted to climb the tree upside down like a sloth and another time that she wanted to do a little more tree climbing, with a big smile on her face.
So, maybe it’s not really an enchanted forest, but you can’t tell those two that. And when it brings such joy to those beautiful faces, you can’t tell us that either.
We’d love to hear about your enchanted forest too!
